Michael Sukowski is a faculty developer, instructional designer, and learning space designer based in Chicago, Illinois. A member of several professional, educational and consulting organizations across the country he has worked as the Acting Executive Director of the Office of Online Instruction and Instructional Technology, the Director of the Center for Teaching and Research Excellence at Chicago State University and as Assistant Professor of Instructional Design and Technology at Concordia University Chicago in the College of Graduate and Innovative Programs. He is currently retired and continues freelance work in faculty and staff development, instructional design, and learning space design. I offer a complimentary one-hour consultation to go over the needs of the client/institution. After this initial consultation, there is a follow up to recommend an appropriate service for client/institution needs. Billing is based on need/hours/final product.

Michael Sukowski in Action

He is a frequent speaker and presenter on the topics of faculty development, instructional design, instructional technology, learning space design, and electronic portfolios. Michael led the team that established the Office of Online Instruction and Instructional Technology at Chicago State University, the Concordia University E-portfolio Resource and Assistance Lab for faculty, students, and staff and is also a speaker on topics related to professional portfolios. He was previously a presenter at the Annual SLATE Conference and the 5th Annual LiveText National Collaboration Conference. Michael was named a SLATE Community Fellow and presented with the 2010 SLATE Star Award. At the LiveText Conference, his topics were InterRater Reliability: Training for Portfolio Reviewers, and Students Leading Students: LiveText Portfolio Basics. He is currently a board member and treasurer of CAFDN (Chicago Area Faculty Development Network), former board member of CAAG (Chicago Area Assessment Group) and professional development committee chair, and frequently hosts the SLATE (Supporting Learning and Technology in Education) webinars.

Publications

*Michael authored a chapter entitled The Changing Learner in the book The Strategic Management of Higher Education Institutions: Serving Students as Customers for Institutional Growth (SMHES). *He co-authored with Mr. Richard Richter, Dr. Paul Sims and Dr. Margaret Trybus, Come and Get Fed: A CAFE (Concordia Adjunct Faculty Education) Experience of Professional Development for Faculty at Concordia University Chicago for The National Council of Professors of Educational Administration 2011 Yearbook. *Working with Dr. Paul Sims and Dr. Margaret Trybus, he co-authored Reaching the Tipping Point: The Interconnectedness of Course Work, Internships, and Portfolios for The National Council of Professors of Educational Administration 2007 Yearbook and they presented on this topic at the annual conference.
