LIFOLOGY The Rev Black Flowers is a BMI affiliated singer/songwriter/performer originally from Dallas, Texas. He cut his teeth in the Deep Ellum Arts District and surrounding areas of Dallas at a very young age. Writing and recording with his first band of high school friends as No Doubt (not the famous one) before playing bass for his brother's band NRG at The Oil Palace in Tyler, Texas. His love of music, creation, and entertaining has since seemed to guide his every move. While attending college, he helped to form the Commerce, Texas band Ideal Cynics. Who made a name for themselves with a large college following while releasing two albums "Malachai" and "Hard Lesson" for DCAP Productions on Midwest Records. They played the main stage at The Taste Of Dallas and The Dallas Observer BrewFest consecutive years and played shows opening for such major label artists as The Nixons, The Toadies, Deep Blue Something, Fastball, Tony McAlpine, and Michael Nesmith of The Monkees. Playing such famous venues as Trees, Club Clearview, On The Rocks, and Dallas City Limits. He also, released the EP "Prideful" with the Mckinney, Texas rock band Dominant Nature during this time. On a free spirited whim in 1996, he took a gig playing the clubs on San Pedro island off the coast of Belize for a year. Upon returning to the U.S., The Rev Black Flowers moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the year 2000 and played for 12 years for tourists in casinos and corporate events while amassing his extensive catalog of cover songs to go with his ever growing list of originals. In October of 2001, he released the single "45 Degrees" with the band Backlash and donated the initial sales proceeds to the victims and first responders of the 9/11 Terror Attacks on The World Trade Centers and The Pentagon. He played with many Las Vegas bands during the next five years such as, One Way Street, Electrifier, and Backlash. Feeling he was ready to step out on his own, he recorded and released his first solo cd "An American Parasol" (which was featured in an article by C.D. Reed of The Commerce Journal) on his own label Black Molly Music in 2006. Local radio stations put his singles "Genuwine" and "Petals" in rotation and he followed it up with "The Glass Bottled Soda" in 2008. Highlights from his sophomore effort were "The Glass Bottled Soda" and "Litany". In late 2012, The Rev released his third cd "St. Lewis" which was featured in an article by Jack Johnson in the December 20th issue of the Boulder City Review. The title track was engineered by Gene Richmond and the video (which was a memorial to his friend Sean Lewis, who passed away suddenly at the age of 31) was produced by director Roy Theiss and shined the spotlight on the town of Boulder City, Nevada. He was featured on a local cable TV show "In The Loop With Coop" and had his music sync licensed for the opening credits of a Las Vegas sports show entitled "Sportz Dawgz". The Rev also became the sound engineer and residency musician for "The Underground" in The Historic Boulder Dam Hotel for 4 years running sound and opening for up and coming bands such as The Killers, Skorchamenza, and The Black Keys. After The Underground closed he moved back to his home state of Texas settling in Clarendon, Texas in 2016 to record and release his 4th group of works entitled "First Light" along with the single "All Saints". While recording with producer/engineer Joel K. Louis he took another residency gig at "The WhistleStop" and doubled as a sound engineer/booking agent. After its release, the song "All Saints" was selected and used as the title track for the paranormal series "From The Shadows" which was sold to the BBC. His full production recording of "First Light" was curated by Reverbnation and climbed to #43 on their singer/songwriter charts. In 2017, The Rev relocated to Marshall, Texas and released the single "Pulse" in 2018 with The Mad Coalition. He has performed and recorded off and on with the East Texas duo BlackSmith while continuing his solo recording efforts and collaborating with other musicians. Recently he released a remastered version of "45 Degrees" and followed it up with the highly anticipated single "Silent Majority". His talents as a songwriter have been in demand in theatre productions as well. Writing music for the 2019 UIL One Act Play "HomeFree" by Lisa Loomer and the BlackBox Production of "Dump Monkeys" directed by Jim Bush at Texas A&M-Commerce University. He has played across the US and abroad gaining fans and friends wherever he has performed. Playing numerous festivals, benefits, charities, and conferences spreading his music as much as humanly possible without major label support. His ability to combine deep meaningful lyrics with heartfelt music has become well documented and praised. He is currently making plans for his next release due in early 2020.
